‘Intoxicating: Ten drinks that shaped Australia’ - Countdown to launch: second chapter

Day two of the countdown ... The second chapter of my new book is called ‘Firewater’. It’s about the arrival of strong spirits - not just the First Fleet rum we all (think we) know about, but also the spirits brought by visitors to northern Australia long before 1788. The chapter brings us up to the present day, and the renaissance of Australian whisky: I took this picture of a big, dormant pot still and empty barrels in the long-abandoned Corio distillery in Geelong; in the 1940s Corio was one of the world’s largest whisky distilleries and it’s now almost forgotten. #IntoxicatingTenDrinks
